Year 7 September 2024

We have 210 places available in Year 7 for September 2024. If you would like to apply, please use the secondary Common Application Form that you will receive from your child’s primary school and return it to your local authority.

If the school is oversubscribed, places will be allocated by applying the following admission criteria in order:

Priority 1 Looked after children or children who were previously looked after by a local authority or those who have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be so as a result of being adopted.

Priority 2 21 places (10%) will be awarded to children who show a particular aptitude for rugby union or netball and live within the Academy’s Priority Admission Area (“PAA”).  To apply for one of these places, parents must complete the common application form and the Rugby and Netball Trials Request Form. The Trials Request Form must be returned to the Academy by the deadline of 21 September. All applicants for these places will be required to attend trials. The form is available here.

Priority 3 Children, foster children or stepchildren of a parent/guardian in current employment within the Rodillian Multi Academy Trust working at the BBG Academy as their full-time place of work when the following applies:

 a) The member of staff has been employed for 2 years or more at the time of application or

 b) The member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post at the BBG Academy for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.

Priority 4 Children whose siblings live at the same address currently attend the Academy, and will continue to do so on the date of admission.

Priority 5 Children residing in the Academy’s PAA covering East Bierley, Birkenshaw, Gomersal and Birstall who reside nearest to the Academy based on the straight line distance from the home address to the Academy.

Priority 6 Children living outside the priority admission area who reside nearest to the academy based on the straight line distance from the home address to the Academy.

Transition

Making the move to secondary school can be a challenging time for both parents and students. At BBG Academy, we work closely with primary schools to make sure the transition from Year 6 to Year 7 is a smooth and positive experience for all.

In-year Applications

BBG Academy is a popular academy. However, spaces do become available at times. If you would like to apply, follow the link: Changing school during the school year | Kirklees Council and complete the application there. In the case that your application is not successful, you will be added to our waiting list and will be contacted if a place becomes available. We no longer accept paper applications, so they must be completed through the link above.

Appeals (2024)

If you would like to appeal against a decision made for this academic year, please click here. Your appeal should be lodged by March 2024. All appeals lodged by this date will be heard by June 2024.
