Early Career Teachers

At the Rodillian Multi Academy Trust we encourage our ECTs to develop their skills and find their own style and methods of teaching. ECTs receive formal support from colleagues across the Trust including a designated ECT mentor who will work alongside them through the critical first years of their career

All our ECTs take part in the Early Career Teacher Programme, a statutory two year induction introduced by the DfE in September 2021. At Rodillian we follow the UCL Institute of Education programme working with their delivery partner the Barnsley and Doncaster Teaching School Hub. The programme is research led and based on the Early Career Framework building on what ECTs have learned during their Initial Teacher Training.

 Through the UCL programme ECTs benefit from weekly mentor sessions, training with expert facilitators, access to online learning communities and access to self-study materials all based on the best available research.

In addition to the national programme we also run our own internal ECT programme which is designed to support and develop our new teachers on their journey of employment through the Rodillian Multi Academy Trust. Our programme complements the national programme and allows ECTs from all our schools to come together and develop stronger links with colleagues at the same career stage.

The RMAT ECT programme is delivered over 2 days allowing ECTs to become immersed in the training. Our CEO, senior leaders and experienced teachers deliver sessions on areas such as establishing credibility, preparing students for exams and resilience.

At Rodillian we raise aspiration levels for staff, students and schools by encouraging creativity in the classroom.  We believe that teachers should have the freedom to develop their own pedagogy as subject experts, and our programme will help you explore this using live research and proven methodologies.

Our nationally recognised behaviour system, allows teachers to concentrate on ensuring the best possible outcomes for our young people. When you train with us, the behaviour system in all your placement schools is the same, so you can concentrate on developing your practice.

Our offer

The Rodillian Multi Academy Trust Training alliance are delighted to offer the opportunity to train through the School Direct initiative across a variety of secondary schools in Leeds, Wakefield and Selby. We believe in growing our own talented teaching leaders of the future, and investing in our staff through quality accredited programmes and coaching.

Working in partnership with Leeds Trinity University and Leeds Beckett University we have developed an exciting one-year programme which will give you the opportunity to experience schools in a range of contexts, gaining a PGCE at the end of the year.

During the year you will benefit from expert mentor support in school and through the university. You will complete two placements in different schools, ensuring that you gain experience in delivering lessons across all Key Stages. While you are on placement, you will be treated as a full member of staff in all schools whilst being supported by expert mentors and like all our teachers you will have access to excellent professional development. During the year you will also complete training at university, and complete Masters-level assignments.

Entry requirements

We are looking for ambitious and committed trainee teachers who are passionate about their subject, and have a desire to share their enthusiasm with young people

You should be a graduate, preferably with a 2:2 plus degree. You should have a degree in which the majority of the content was in the chosen teaching subject. We will look carefully at all applications, and are happy to recommend successful candidates for a relevant Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course if appropriate.

You should also have GCSE grade 4 (C) passes (or equivalent)  in English language and Maths.


Trainees are funded through a student loan in the same way as first degrees. As with other courses fees can vary and depend on the HEI you select. There are some bursaries available for subjects with a shortage of teachers. Please follow the link below for more information about funding:
